On November 11, in honor of all veterans, please look up the video "A Pittance of Time" by Terry Kelly and contribute your two minutes (a pittance of time) by watching it. Many of our classmates are veterans of the Viet Nam conflict - they have earned our respect for their service. Jerry Lamb sent it to me last year. You can find it on Google or your favorite search engine.

Aug. 9. We planned a party for our 50th
reunion - and what a party it turned out to be ! My thanks to all the
classmates who helped on the planning and preparations for the reunion, to all
the classmates who sent in their biography sheets for the reunion annual, and to
all the classmates who were able to join in this celebration. Those of you
who attended for the first time gave special meaning to the term 'Reunion' - and
we were so glad that you were able to join us.
Many of you also have requested Bill Koons' dinner address - after Bill and Linda get back to Philadelphia, he will be sending a copy to me that I will post. Wasn't it a fantastic job that he did ? I'm having trouble getting Bill's text transferred to the website, but I can e-mail it. Just send me a request, and I'll shoot it right off to you.
Eureka! I finally figured it out - his talk is posted as the first item on the Pictures page - click on the first thumbnail and increase magnification to 400%.
In a day or so I will be posting a more complete report on the reunion. Right now I want to revel in the memories (and catch up on my sleep), but I am putting together notes for the report. Please go to the 2010 Reunion page for the latest reports and updates about the reunion. Links are at the top and bottom of this Home page.
The pictures which Pat Clarke took at the various events are now posted on the Pictures page. Enjoy ! ! ! Sondra Brewer has sent in some pictures which are also on the Pictures page, and Marcia Myrmo has done the same. Thanks to both of them for sharing reminders of our reunion.
Again, thanks to everyone who helped make this 50th reunion of the South Eugene Class of 1960 such a success.
Thanks to all of you -
Martha Hendrickson Pratt, Reunion Chair
We have 25 reunion annuals from this 50th reunion still available, if you didn't order one on the first chance. Cost is $20. Order via e-mail to Martha.
Also, we have about 6 copies of Sharon Moore's compilation of creative writing from Dr. Kehl's class. She has donated them to our class. If you would like a copy, I would recommend a donation to our class treasury. Request via e-mail to Martha.

Charlie Merrill coached a 55+ Div. A men's softball team to a gold medal in the Huntsman World Senior Games at St. George, Utah, the second week of October. Way to go, Coach ! Paul Armstrong also took a 65+ team to St. George the first week of October; no medal this time, but the team enjoyed the experience.

Aug. 11.
Richard Raines Video Productions from Portland had a videographer at both our
Friday reception and our Saturday dinner. He interviewed as many of our
classmates as he could catch up with - and Richard will edit the results into a
90 minute DVD which classmates may order for $29.95 if they wish. Letters
with ordering information were sent out today by the Reunion Committee (we sent
them ourselves; we did not release the Class Roster to Richard). There is
no pressure to order the DVD; it is totally a personal decision. When I
see it, I'll let everyone know my reaction.
Oct. 13. Still waiting for Richard to
send out the DVDs. He was snowed under with reunions this July and August.
Be patient - they are in the works.
Nov. 2.
Just got an e-mail from Richard - the DVDs should be mailed out this coming
Friday. He apologizes for the delay.

Royd Faust, North Eugene Class of 1960, donated two items for a special raffle - a purple jacket embroidered SEHS Class of 60, and a purple sweatshirt with the same embroidery. Those of you who had been envying Bob Carmichael for possessing such a jacket had the chance to try to win one ! Tickets for the raffle were sold at our class check-in table in the Hilton lobby - $1 each, or 6 for $5. Proceeds will be donated as part of our contribution to the EHS/SEHS Alumni Scholarship Fund. The drawings were held at our Saturday banquet. Lucky winners were . . . . . Bill Guske, winner of the sweatshirt, and Bill Ruff, winner of the jacket. Congratulations to both Bills ! ! !

The EHS/SEHS Alumni Scholarship Fund was created by the Class of 1954 at their 50th reunion in honor of the excellent education received at Eugene High School. As each successive class has reached its 50 year milestone, each has been invited to join in this effort to fund scholarships for the current students at South Eugene High School. This past spring, the Class of 2010 was awarded two $1000 scholarships and three $500 scholarships. These scholarships are based on academics, extracurricular activities and need, and are fully funded by alumni contributions. Contributions are tax deductible, made payable to "EHS/SEHS Alumni Scholarship Fund" with Class of 1960 on the memo line, and are to be sent to South Eugene High School, 400 E. 19th Avenue, Eugene, OR 97405 Attn: Finance Clerk.
Donations from classmates and sale of raffle tickets totalled $378, which was sent to SEHS as our initial contribution to the Alumni Scholarship Fund from the Class of 1960.
We hope that our classmates will join in perpetuating this scholarship fund for SEHS.
Oct. 13.
At last week's First Tuesday dinner, the group voted to donate $1000 from our
class bank account to the EHS/SEHS Alumni Scholarship Fund. The reunion
costs were carefully managed, and expenses were not quite as much as we had
projected. We hope that everyone else in the class agrees with this
expenditure of funds.

Election Day and November's First Tuesday were celebrated at Izzy's by a group of 23 members of the Class of 60 ! Present were Sharla Slauter, Judy Clark, Mike Harrington, Bob and Gwen Neet, Donna Knapp, Ted and Suzanne Brindle Shannon, Bill and Karen Jones (and grandson Caleb), Martha Hendrickson, Dale Nygren, Wally and Geri Van Devender Wacker, Ray and Sharon Todd Hanke, Gary and Donna Kernutt, Pat Clarke, Donna Fitch and Jerry Holte, and Dave and Karen Myrmo Coleman. There was precious little talk of politics - a welcome break from the hoopla of radio and TV over the past month.
December 7 - our next gathering! Mark your calendars now and plan to join us at Izzy's on Seneca Road off West 11th, at the north end of the Fred Meyer parking lot. "Starting" time is anywhere between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.; the restaurant closes at 9 p.m. We don't have to be the last ones to leave, but some of us often are the last! Our gatherings are casual - come when you can, stay as long as you want, and plan to come back again the next month.
December 7's First Tuesday will be the White Elephant Gift Exchange - do plan to join us for this special once-a-year extravaganza!
RULES OF COMBAT for the December White Elephant Gift Exchange -
Bring a wrapped present for the exchange.
$10 limit if you're buying something new (Homemade items are always a big hit, as are edible treats!)
Everyone draws a number for order of choosing "prizes/gifts" - the 3rd person who gets a prize/gift by choosing/trading/"stealing" it keeps the prize - when everyone has had a chance to choose, #1 (the person who drew first and thus had no chance to trade/steal for another prize) gets to have his/her choice of prizes to end the exchange.
Everyone come ! It's really a lot of fun.
We do hope that other local classmates will join us for our gatherings, and whenever travelers are in the area that they will be there, too.

GO DUCKS!!! GO BEAVERS!!!
The Pac-10 is now a 12-team league with the addition of the University of Colorado and the University of Utah. This change will take effect in the fall of 2012. We'll have to wait and see how the league gets divided.
The Ducks stomped all over New Mexico in the opening football game, 72-0. Ouch. The coming weekend is a more rigorous test against Tennessee at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, with almost 100,000 rabid fans in orange and with "Rocky Top" blaring forth all over the place.
The Beavers didn't fare as well, as TCU did them in down in Texas. A few miscues derailed the OSU efforts. At least they have a bye weekend now to lick their wounds and re-group.
Sept. 15. Well,
it's another week into the football season. The Tennessee Volunteers led
13-3 at the end of the first quarter in Knoxville; the band was playing
"Rocky Top" full bore; and then the Ducks reeled off 45 unanswered points to
take the win BIG TIME ! The next game is this Saturday against Portland
State at Autzen.
The Beavers play the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday in Corvallis at Reser Stadium. We'll watch to see if the Rodgers brothers can light up the stage the way they did last year.
Sept. 19. Two Willamette
Valley college football games - two wins !!! Oregon was not nice to
Portland State, dispatching the Vikings by a 69 - 0 score. Ouch !
Oregon State knocked the Louisville Cardinals off their perch by a 7 point margin, with a 35 - 28 final score.
Next week the Ducks fly south to play Arizona State, and the Beavers trundle to Boise to play on the "Smurf Turf" at Boise State.
Sept. 26. Two games, one
win, one loss.
Oregon went to the desert and came home with a 42-31 win over Arizona State. The 100-degree-starting-time temperature was quite a change from the cooler Eugene venue, but the Ducks had prepped by turning up the heat in the indoor practice facility. It worked !
Oregon State painted its practice field Boise Blue, but the ruse didn't work. Boise State won, 37-24.
Next weekend, Oregon State hosts Arizona State in Corvallis, and Oregon has Stanford in Eugene.
Oct. 13. Catch-up
time on two weeks' worth of football (I was out of town).
Oct. 2 - UofO vs. Stanford in Eugene - final score, UofO 52, Stanford 31; OSU vs. Arizona State in Corvallis - final score, OSU 31, ASU 28.
Oct. 9 - UofO vs. WSU in Pullman - final score, UofO 43, WSU 23; OSU vs. Arizona in Tucson - final score OSU 29, UA 27.
Oct. 16 - UofO has a bye week; OSU vs. UW in Seattle - final score, UW 35, OSU 34.
Oct. 21 (Thursday night) - UofO vs. UCLA in Eugene at 6 p.m. - final score, UofO 60, UCLA 13. Quack quack quack ! ! !
Oct. 23 - OSU has a bye week.
Both teams are looking good as we progress through the mid-point of the season!
Oct. 30 - UofO 53, USC
32 in a game played in Los Angeles; OSU 35, Cal 7 in Corvallis.
Next Saturday's games have the Ducks hosting UW at Autzen at 12:30 noon, and the
Beavers travelling to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena to play UCLA at 4 p.m.
The BCS rankings have Oregon as #1, as do the weekly coaches' rankings. The computer finally appreciated the Ducks. Let's hope the calmness continues and "the curse of being #1" disappears.
Nov. 7 - Well, the curse
didn't hold true for the Ducks yesterday, but the game started with a scoreless
first quarter, which made many of us quite nervous ! The final score was
UofO 53, UW 16. The Duck mascot does get his exercise doing pushups after
every score !
The clock came down to the final one second in the Beavers' game - and then UCLA made a field goal for a final score of 17 - 14 over OSU. Such a close game - but then it was over.
