NEWS FROM YOUR WEB EDITOR
We have a new e-mail address. If you have news to share or any questions
about the class or this web site, contact Martha at marpraref@q.com . (Martha says, "My e-mail
sometimes rejects messages. If it does it to you, try again, please.
Make sure you type q.com, not g.com. Thanks.")

! ! ! ! CHECK YOUR MAILBOXES ! ! ! !
The envelopes are in the mail, with an information letter, your registration form, and your Reunion Annual biography sheet. Please read the letter for answers to all your questions about the reunion (or most of them, in any event), and then respond in a timely fashion. The sooner we get your registration form and payment, the better for the Reunion Committee. If you need more time to compose your biography sheet information, hold it back. Just remember to send it in before June 10. Thank you - Martha Hendrickson Pratt, Reunion Chairman
If your envelope is returned to me with an "Unable to Forward" yellow sticker on it, your name will be taken off the "Found" list and transferred to the "Missing" list.
SEE BELOW FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE PLANNING FOR OUR 50th REUNION.
We have withdrawn the possibility of a group cruise.

Take a look outside! The daffodils are bursting into bloom, forsythia is coming along, daphne is adding a purple touch, and the camellias are gorgeous! Aren't we glad to be living in such a pretty part of the country?

Feb. 22.
LaRae Moran Mehlhoff from Springfield has asked for help in finding Judy Swartz,
who graduated in 1960 from North Eugene. Judy was best friends with a girl
named Carol from SEHS. The three of them (LaRae, Judy and Carol) were all
in classes at Eugene Business College together after high school. If you
know either Judy or Carol - or if you are Carol! - please get in touch with
Martha. Judy is on the NEHS "Lost" list. Thank you.

First Tuesday in April will be celebrated on April 6th. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us at Izzy's on Seneca Road off West 11th, at the north end of the Fred Meyer parking lot. "Starting" time is anywhere between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.; the restaurant closes at 9 p.m. We don't have to be the last ones to leave, but some of us often are the last! Our gatherings are casual - come when you can, stay as long as you want, and plan to come back again the next month.
Bring your registration forms with you to turn in - keep the biography sheet for a while if you still need to think about it, but don't forget to send it in before June 10. Sharon and Pat will be MOST UNHAPPY with you if you miss the deadline!

March 2nd came early in the month, strangely enough, but we had a full house for First Tuesday nonetheless. We were delighted that Jim Potterf, Bry Engle, and Gary Olson have not been scared off and are well on their various ways to becoming regular members of the First Tuesday bunch! Others who were chewing and chatting were Dale Nygren, Lonnie and Juanita Morgan Bunce, Vern and Kay Borders Thompson, Wally and Geri Van Devender Wacker, Gary and Donna Kernutt, Bill Jones, Doug and Joan Millett Odell along with their daughter, son-in-law and several grandkids, Larry and Shirley Newingham Honaker, Judy Clark Gaines, Pat Clarke Kempf, Martha Hendrickson Pratt, Bill Ruff, Nini Mitchell Monroe, Dave and Karen Myrmo Coleman, Charlie and Sharon Merrill, Mike Hessel, Mike Harrington, Donna Knapp Miller, Curt Short, and Bob Carmichael. It's nice to see so many classmates turning out and getting re-acquainted before the busy-ness of the reunion itself.
We do hope that other local classmates will join us for our gatherings, and whenever travelers are in the area that they will be there, too.

The Pictures page of our website has a mixed collection of images on it! To get to the Pictures page, go to the 2010 Reunion page and click on the Pictures link at the bottom of that page. The links that used to be here on the Home page were broken and have been removed. Classmates have been submitting pictures from elementary school, some with identifications and others that invite all of us to play detective! If you know who any of the cute kids is, let me know at marpraref@q.com. Give me an idea of which row and which position you're talking about, and I'll be able to fill in the blanks for that picture.
First Tuesday pictures have been updated; only those from 2010 are currently posted.
Lists of students for the elementary school pictures are under each row; captions wouldn't work.
Do send me pictures of your elementary school classes - we all get a kick out of seeing what we used to look like before we "grew up." You may send them e-mail or by snail mail; I'll scan them and get them posted.

Our "Missing" list continues to shrink! Please take the time to check the "Missing" page on this web site. There might be a classmate on the list that you can help us find. The list changes from time to time as some of you move and forget to give us your new address. So remember ... if your address changes, please contact us with your new contact information through this web site. Thank you.
If everyone could find just one or two people from the "Missing" list, we would be at almost 100% located. That would be great!

2010 - our 50th Reunion! We are planning for the first weekend of August - August 6, 7, and 8. The events will begin with check-in in the Eugene Hilton lobby area, and a Friday evening no-host reception, also in the lobby area. Saturday we will have a breakfast at the Hilton, and then "open time" until 6 p.m., when we will gather for a pre-dinner reception, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. DJJohn from Tucson (our own John Strobeck) will have our SEHS Class of 60's TOP 50 music for our entertainment, humming along with, and (possibly) dancing! A short program is planned. On Sunday we will wind down and wind up our celebration with a BYO picnic at Ray and Sharon Todd Hanke's home in Marcola.
We will be starting to think about our Reunion Annual at the next couple of First Tuesdays, especially the selling of advertisements. It will be important to start selling ads early, given the current economic climate. We want to sell full page ads, but we also want to canvass our community for those interested in half and quarter-page ads. We will discuss this more in April.
If you would like to place an advertisement in the Reunion Annual, please contact Sharon Todd Hanke (541-933-3998) or Pat Clarke Kempf (541-912-0470).
Bob Neet is coordinating plans for the usual Friday golf tournament sponsored by the SEHS Class of 1961. Pat Clarke Kempf is spearheading plans for a Saturday early afternoon chauffeured wine tasting tour for everyone who is interested. Approximate cost of the wine tour will be $50 per person, which will include the chauffeured bus and the individual winery fees. These events will be separate parts of our weekend, not "official" parts of the reunion.
Thanks to Ray and Sharon Todd Hanke, we have a location for our Sunday picnic - The Mary Cole House in Marcola. Ray and Sharon bought the house several years ago and spent a lot of time renovating it before they moved in. The site of their wedding, as well as numerous Mary Cole Days gatherings and celebrations, their home features a delightfully shady side yard and plenty of room in Ray's shop. We'll be able to set up tables in both areas and generally relax and wind down in a peaceful setting. Start planning your picnic now! Each person will bring his/her own picnic - be as creative as you wish - fancy deli eats, McDonald's, made at home PBJ sandwiches - anything goes. It will be a time to remember how great the SEHS Class of 60 was, is, and forever will be.
Remember to go back in your mind and pull forth your three favorite songs from high school days! Mark them on your registration form so that we can put together our TOP 50 for DJJohn to turn into music for us.
Also, please put down on your registration form a contact person (friend, child, grandchild) who can help us find you for the next reunion!
Reunion Annual page deadline for submission is June 10, but the earlier you get it in, the happier Sharon and Pat will be.
If you wait until the last minute to send in your registration form (i.e., after July 1), you may not get your choice of entree.

The possibility of a group cruise to end the 50th reunion has fallen prey to the economy. The general lack of a positive response by classmates, plus some comments specifically pertaining to the expense, sent the plan to File 13. Many thanks to Susan Hill Kimmel for her work in setting up the possibilities for us, and especially for donating copies of her travel book to the class. She will be glad to work with any classmates who would like to have her serve as their travel agent.

GO DUCKS!!! GO BEAVERS!!!
Remember all the high school tournament games we went to at Mac Court? This year will be the last chance to live those memories again, so consider going to a game while you have the chance.
The PAC-10 standings change from game to game - there IS parity in this conference!
Jan. 25. Sometimes it seems that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. What began as a promising season for both the Ducks and the Beavers is in dire straits and needs an infusion of something like cod liver oil to pep things up. We'll see what happens this week as both Oregon schools play host to the southern California schools on Thursday and Saturday. The women's teams will be playing the same schools in Los Angeles.
Jan. 28. Son of a gun! Both Beavers and Ducks men's teams won their games against the Los Angeles teams tonight. The Beavers defeated USC in regulation time, and the Ducks went to overtime to drop UCLA. Unfortunately, both women's teams lost in Los Angeles. On Saturday the Oregon teams (both men's and women's teams) switch opponents - we hope to have wins in both cases.
Jan. 30. Well, both the Ducks men's and women's teams notched wins over USC this afternoon, but the Beavers' teams went down to defeat in both Corvallis for the men and in Los Angeles for the women. The Ducks must have swigged down their cod liver oil; maybe the Beavers just rubbed it into their coats. Next week, of course, the story may be somewhat altered; you never know who's going to win on any given day!
Feb. 6. Another
Civil War series is now in the books, with a split decision. The Beaver
men took the win from the Ducks in a game played at Gill Coliseum, but the Duck
women had a big win over the Beavers in a Mac Court game. And the story of
the PAC-10 standings continues to evolve!
Feb. 13. Don't go
to the desert and hope to come home with a victory, if you're the U of O men's
team. Two games against the Arizona teams, two losses. Alas and
alack-a-day. The Duck women, on the other hand, were able to put together
good efforts both Thursday and Saturday at Mac Court to beat the Arizona
schools.
On Thursday, Oregon State's men's and women's teams were dispatched by ASU. However, Saturday brought a split - the Beaver men beat Arizona, but the women lost to the Arizona women.
Feb. 21. Basketball
is beginning to wind down, which might be a good thing for the Oregon schools.
The results have been bleak for the last several weeks, for both the men and
women.
Feb. 26. Well,
well, well - will wonders never cease? The Beaver men lost to UCLA, but
the embattled Duck men WON! USC couldn't get anything going in the second
half, and the Ducks won going away, 54-44. Both women's teams lost to the same
schools.
Feb. 28. The Ducks
did it again, and the Beavers followed suit! For the men's teams, that
meant that both schools beat their Los Angeles opponents, but it also meant that
both women's teams lost at home. It was the last regular-season game for
the women at Mac Court.
The men's team will close out the season against the two Washington schools at Mac Court the week of March 1-6. The women's team will play the same schools as away games.
March 8. Do Ducks
have swan songs? We aren't sure about that, but the regular season is over
for both the men's and women's teams. The women lost both games to the
Washington school up north, while the men lost to Washington last Thursday but
defeated the WSU Cougars in Mac Court on Saturday. Next play will be the
PAC-10 tournament for both OSU and UofO. There will be some pre-season
games played at Mac Court next year, but "The Igloo" has seen the last of
regular season PAC-10 play. An era has ended.
Baseball is just underway, with the Duck men going to UC Fullerton and beating Coach Horton's former team. Games continue up and down the West Coast and even in Hawai'i before the Diamond Ducks come home to open the season's play at PK Park at Autzen.
First home game was a win for the baseball team. PK Park is a marvelous venue for the game and the team.
